Blanka Ježková – words from the heart

Blanka Ježková - writing from the heart

Poselství náčelníka Dana George

A book that opens hearts and builds bridges between worlds

Chief Dan George was not only an actor and a poet – he was the voice of the First Nations, speaking to people across cultures. In his book My Heart Soars, he shares the deep wisdom and spiritual legacy of his people. Through poems, short texts, and words that are both read and felt with the heart, he touches upon the relationship of man to the Earth, to others, and to oneself.
For Czech readers, Chief Dan George is often remembered from the film Little Big Man, where he played the father of Dustin Hoffman’s character. Yet his true legacy goes much deeper – in his writings, he became the spokesperson for those who had been silenced for centuries.
With great respect and humility, I translated this remarkable book The best of Chief Dan George into Czech so that readers in my homeland could come closer to it. I believe you will find within it something that resonates with you – something that perhaps has been within you all along.
Inside the book you will also find Lament for Confederation, his famous speech delivered in the Canadian Parliament, as well as unique illustrations by Helmut Hirnschall, which highlight the depth of his message.
Czech culture, long shaped by romanticized stories of the Wild West, now has the chance to glimpse the real picture. Not through fiction – but through the truth.
