Blanka Ježková – words from the heart

Blanka Ježková - writing from the heart

Books have accompanied me throughout my life. First as a reader, then as a translator, later as a publisher and finally as an author. Words – in Czech and other languages – are not only tools for me but also ways to discover new worlds.

My name is Blanka Ježková and I was born in the Czech Republic, in a beautiful city of Brno. I graduated from a local high school, and after a year-long work and study stay in London, where I passed an international language exam, I studied English, French, pedagogy, and psychology at the Masaryk University.

After gaining experience while working for an international company, I started working as a lecturer, interpreter, and translator, and I had the opportunity to travel to many countries around the world. These travels inspired me in many ways and had a very positive influence on my subsequent life and work.

During a trip to Canada, I discovered a book The best of Chief Dan George. It was written by a Native American chief Dan George, who became famous as a spokesman for the indigenous people and as one of the main characters in the cult anti-western Little Big Man. I was so fascinated by the book that I translated it and published it in the Czech Republic under the title Poselství náčelníka Dana George.

In addition to translating and publishing books, I am now, together with the illustrator Kateřina Kofroňová, also the author of my first own book, Putování hvězdy, which I translated into English and which was published under the title Travels of a Star.

We are currently preparing its sequel called Beautiful Earth.
